Concordium becomes the identity verification layer for XDC AI

On 15 October 2026 Concordium announced that XDC Network chose it as the identity verification layer for XDC AI, XDC's marketplace where AI agents pay for services in USDC. Here is what XDC AI and x402 are, how agent verification works, and what the badge does and does not prove.

What was announced

Concordium, a blockchain that builds identity checks into its protocol, published the news on 15 October 2026 (concordium.com): “XDC Network has selected Concordium as the exclusive identity verification layer for XDC AI, its agent payments marketplace.”

Concordium calls it its “first full-network integration”: until now its badge had been “adopted one agent at a time, on Ethereum, Solana and other chains”. With XDC AI, every agent on one marketplace can be verified the same way.

“Agents on XDC AI can already discover services and pay for them in USDC. What institutions need next is to know who stands behind an agent before they trust it with real money. Concordium gives every verified agent an accountable owner without putting anyone's personal data on-chain, so builders on XDC earn trust from their very first transaction,” said Atul Khekade, Co-founder of XDC Network, in Concordium's announcement.

When we checked the same day, the announcement was on Concordium's site; XDC's own websites had no separate article about it yet.

What XDC AI is

XDC AI launched in July 2026 and, in Concordium's words, “gives an AI agent a non-custodial wallet and lets it discover services and pay for them in USDC over the x402 payment standard” (Concordium). XDC's own page describes it like this (xinfin.org):

Agents pay per call in USDC

“Give any agent a wallet and let it pay for APIs per call in USDC — no gas, no seed phrase, no credit card.” The agent's only balance is USDC: “Agents only ever spend USDC — never native gas.”

Gas paid by a relayer

“Payments use EIP-3009 transferWithAuthorization: the agent signs off-chain and a relayer pays the XDC gas.” The payment itself is a USDC transfer on the XDC Network.

Services get paid the same way

“Providers wrap any API in middleware to earn USDC per call and get discovered by paying agents.” In XDC's phrase, “XDC AI is the rails — builders ship the services.”

The app itself is at xdcai.tech. USDC on XDC is issued natively by Circle; our DeFi and stablecoins page tracks stablecoin supply on XDC live.

What x402 is

x402 is “an open, neutral standard for internet-native payments” (x402.org). It reuses the web's long-unused HTTP status code 402, “Payment Required”. Concordium summarises the loop (Concordium, 23 September 2026):

The loop

“The server answers a request with a 402 and a price, the client signs a stablecoin payment and resends, and the resource is released.” No account, card or API key is needed, which suits software agents.

Who runs the standard

According to the same Concordium article, the x402 Foundation was “announced by Coinbase and Cloudflare in September 2025” and “went fully operational under the Linux Foundation on 14 July 2026”. Concordium joined it in September 2026.

Where XDC fits

XDC AI is “built on the open x402 standard, settled on XDC” (xinfin.org): the agent pays over x402, and the USDC moves on the XDC Network.

How agent verification works

Concordium describes the steps an agent's owner takes (Concordium). Verification is live at xdcai.tech/agent-verification.

  1. Verify yourself in the Concordium Wallet, “with a passport and liveness check conducted by an independent identity provider rather than by Concordium”.
  2. Link your XDC wallet “with two signatures that move no funds”.
  3. Register the agent. Concordium then issues a “Verified by Concordium” badge for it.
  4. Pay the one-time fee. “There is a one-time verification fee, paid by the owner, and the owner never needs to buy CCD.” The amount was not published in the announcement.
  5. Anyone can check the badge “either in Concordium's explorer or on the Agent Registry”, without asking Concordium, XDC or the owner.

The agent itself does not move: Concordium says it “keeps its XDC wallet, its code and its operations exactly where they are”. Network fees for the badge are sponsored, so builders do not need to hold CCD, Concordium's own coin.

What the badge proves, and what it does not

It proves an accountable owner

Anyone can confirm that a verified person or business stands behind the agent. That answers the question a wallet address cannot: who is responsible if an agent's order is disputed or was never authorised.

It does not prove the agent is good

Concordium is explicit: “The badge does not mean Concordium has reviewed the agent's code or approved its use case. It means accountable, not endorsed.” A verified agent can still be badly built or make bad trades.

The owner stays private

“No name, document number or photograph is stored on-chain.” The identity record stays with the provider that did the check. “Disclosure follows one route only: a court order, acted on jointly by independent Privacy Guardians, each holding a share of the key.”

Where the badge lives

The badge is checked on Concordium (its explorer or the Agent Registry), linked to the agent's XDC wallet. The USDC payments themselves stay on XDC.

Why this matters for XDC

XDC Network positions itself around payments, trade finance and real-world assets (XDC and trade finance). Those are businesses where counterparties are known and checked. Agents that spend money for a company need the same: a supplier will give an anonymous wallet little authority, but may accept orders from an agent whose owner is verified and reachable through a legal process.

For Concordium the deal brings scale: one marketplace instead of single agents. Concordium also says “the partnership includes revenue sharing on each agent verification”; the terms are not public.

None of this changes how XDC itself works: no change to XDC's consensus, fees or wallets was announced. It is an optional identity layer for agents on XDC AI.

Staying safe with AI agents and verification

Use the official addresses

Verification starts at xdcai.tech/agent-verification and the Concordium Wallet. Expect “verify your agent” or “claim your badge” scams after news like this; check links against Concordium’s announcement and our safety center.

Never share a recovery phrase

Nothing in this flow asks for your recovery phrase or private key: the wallet link is two signatures that move no funds. Anyone asking for a phrase is a scammer.

Cap what an agent can spend

XDC AI caps per-call spending on-chain, according to xinfin.org. Keep only the USDC an agent needs in its wallet.
