What blockchain is XDC on?

XDC runs on its own blockchain, the XDC Network: a layer-1 chain with its own validators, live since 1 June 2019. XDC is not an Ethereum token, but the network is EVM-compatible, so Ethereum wallets and Solidity smart contracts work on it.

Key facts about the XDC blockchain

Its own layer 1

The XDC Network has its own validator nodes (masternodes) that produce and confirm blocks. It launched on 1 June 2019 (XDC MiCA white paper).

Consensus: XDPoS 2.0

Blocks are produced by masternodes under XinFin Delegated Proof of Stake. The XDPoS 2.0 upgrade went live on 30 September 2024 and gives deterministic finality after three blocks (xdc.org).

Ethereum-compatible (EVM)

The network runs the Ethereum Virtual Machine, so Solidity contracts and wallets such as MetaMask work once XDC is added. The chain ID is 50 for mainnet and 51 for the Apothem testnet (XDC documentation).

Native coin: XDC

XDC pays transaction fees and is staked by masternodes. Since the Cancun upgrade in January 2026, the base fee of every transaction is burned (release notes).

Was XDC ever an Ethereum token?

Before its own network launched, XDC existed as XDCE, an ERC-20 token on Ethereum. At the mainnet launch on 1 June 2019, XDCE was swapped one for one for native XDC (XDC MiCA white paper).
