MoneyGram joins XDC Network as an institutional validator

On 15 October 2026 MoneyGram said it is joining XDC Network as an institutional validator, taking a role in securing the network. Here is what MoneyGram said, what an XDC validator does, what has not been disclosed yet, and how the move fits MoneyGram's other blockchain work.

By XDC Watch, an independent site. Published 15 October 2026; facts checked against primary sources on 15 October 2026. Not financial advice.

What MoneyGram announced

MoneyGram, the cross-border money transfer company, posted the news on its verified X account on 15 October 2026 at 18:15 UTC (MoneyGram on X):

“MoneyGram is joining @XDCNetwork as an institutional validator, taking an active role in securing the network. This is another step in our goal to build a more open infrastructure for global money movement.”

The post carries a short video with both companies' names. It links to no press release, and when we checked MoneyGram's newsroom on PR Newswire later the same day, it listed nothing about XDC yet.

What has not been said yet

As of 15 October 2026, neither MoneyGram nor XDC had published these details. We will update this guide when they do.

How much XDC, and how many nodes

Each XDC masternode needs 10 million XDC locked (see below). MoneyGram has not said how many nodes it will run or how it will hold the stake.

When, and which MoneyGram company

No start date, region or legal entity has been named.

Payments on XDC

The post is about securing the network. MoneyGram has not said it will move customer payments, settle transfers or issue its stablecoin on XDC. Running a validator and using a chain for payments are different things.

XDC RPC (XDPoS) · updated 9 min ago

What a validator does on XDC

XDC Network runs on XDPoS, a delegated proof-of-stake design. Its validators are called masternodes. Our masternode guide covers the setup in full; the essentials, from XDC's own documentation:

Stake and identity

“Masternodes are required to complete a KYC process and stake 10,000,000 XDC,” and “these tokens must be locked in your Masternode wallet” (XDC documentation). A validator is therefore a known, identified operator, which suits regulated companies.

Getting into the active set

“Token Holders stake XDC to vote for Masternode candidates,” and the “Top 108 Candidates become active Masternodes” (XDC architecture docs). Candidates outside the top group wait as standby nodes, which “do not participate in validating transactions and block creation” but are “on standby to fill the role of Validators that drop from network participation” (XDC documentation).

Producing blocks

Active masternodes “take turns proposing blocks (round-robin)” and “sign blocks to confirm” them, with “900-block epochs for validator rotation” (XDC architecture docs). The live epoch length and block time are on our network page.

Rewards

Validators earn XDC for this work. The rate depends on block times and the number of validators, so we compute it live rather than quote a fixed figure: see the estimate above and our staking guide.

What “institutional validator” means

XDC's documentation has no separate category for institutions: a company runs the same masternode as anyone else, with the same stake and KYC. “Institutional validator” is the label used in announcements when an established company becomes one of the operators. MoneyGram follows other companies that announced validator roles on XDC in 2026, for example:

Animoca Brands (May 2026)

Animoca Brands said it “has joined the XDC Network as a strategic validator” (Animoca Brands, 19 May 2026).

Hex Trust (August 2026)

The digital-asset custodian said it “has joined XDC Network as an institutional Masternode Validator” (Hex Trust, 3 August 2026).

Other companies have been reported as XDC validators in 2026; we list only those whose own announcement we could open. More operators run by known companies spread block production across more independent parties, which is the point of a validator set.

How this fits MoneyGram's blockchain work

MoneyGram has been building on blockchains for several years, and validator roles are a recent part of that:

  • Since 2021: stablecoin cash-in and cash-out with Stellar. The Block wrote that “since 2021, MoneyGram and Stellar have launched stablecoin cash on- and off-ramps” (The Block). Our XDC vs Stellar comparison explains how the two networks differ.
  • 20 May 2026: “MoneyGram Becomes Tempo's Anchor Remittance Validator in Strategic Blockchain Partnership” (PR Newswire).
  • 2 June 2026: “MoneyGram Launches MGUSD, a Stablecoin to Power Its Own Global Network” (PR Newswire).
  • 22 June 2026: MoneyGram joins Solana as a validator, staking SOL and processing blocks (PR Newswire).
  • 15 October 2026: MoneyGram joins XDC Network as an institutional validator (MoneyGram on X).

The pattern is a payments company taking part in several networks' consensus rather than betting on one. XDC's own focus is trade finance and real-world assets (XDC and trade finance), which is a different market from MoneyGram's consumer remittances; MoneyGram has not said how, or whether, it will connect the two.

How to follow it yourself

Watch the validator list

Our validators page lists XDC's masternodes from the chain, by address. A company's node can only be matched to it once the company or XDC publishes the address, so look for that announcement rather than a name in the list.

Watch the official channels

MoneyGram's press releases appear on PR Newswire, and its posts on X. Treat screenshots and reposts without a link to these accounts with care: fake partnership news is a common crypto scam.

Ignore “guaranteed” price talk

A validator role says nothing reliable about the price of XDC. Our live price page shows the market as it is, with sources.
